....And Justice For All

If you've ever played any game online and handled yourself pretty well there's a fair chance you've made some prick get mad and quit in an effort to take away your win. Street Fighter 4 is about the best example of this 'Rage Quitting' with sore losers quitting mid-match or just before the end in order to not give you the win.

Nowadays, anyone who plays SF4 online with have a disconnect percentage rating, but people still manage to slip through. Justice is served to such pricks in the form of Rage-Quitters.com
a website that names and shames quitters with screengrabs submitted by the cheated and disenfranchised. I wish I'd heard about this sooner. If it happens to you in future, make sure to submit and when you first visit, search for your gamertag. Only then can you understand the relief I felt at not being on there. Thank Christ.

The cock-teasing continues.

I don't remember the exact day that I became so obsessed with Street Fighter 4. It certainly wasn't from the beginning and it's not a recent development, but it's still difficult to place all the same. Whenever that moment was, it's clear that my obsession is going from strength to strength when I thoughtlessly get in on Capcom's marketing hype by asking 'Who's beating up Chunners?'

I have to know. There's no logical way of dissecting this screenshot though, right? It could be Ken for all we know, but at least we get to see a nice new level. A very Final Fight-esque level: the kind that Rolento would hang out in, maybe. Anyone have any thoughts? As always, I'm holding out for the man, the legend - Mike Haggar.

Oh, look. Here's Dudley:

Gotta love 'leaked' screenshots!

Update: Jackie Chan does Street Fighter. Cross-dressing Chun Li Chan just made my day.

A winner is you!

Weeks have gone by and yet I still pine for our beloved Street Fighter 4 tournament. I feverishly try to make leagues out of everything now; secretly challenging my family to pooing competitions and seeing how many more cups of tea I can drink per day. All have proved fruitless so far. Never mind though, for as I mentioned earlier, bigger and better things are now in the works!

For now, just enjoy this bevvy of post-tourney material:

Vandalworks and myself facing off at our winners ceremony:

The Split-Screen Street Fighter 4 Tournament - THE END

It is both upsetting and a slight relief to say that our beloved Street Fighter 4 tournament has finally come to an end. We've seen fighters come and go and we've had endless delays, but you all stuck with it and for that I can't thank you enough. So, in case you hadn't already heard the news, there is indeed a winner and that man is the ever-awesome VANDALWORKS! Give the man a round of applause ladies and gentlemen, for he is one with a true fighting spirit; a noble warrior and a great opponent. Vandalworks, I salute you and I am more than happy to be handing over the gold trophy to you. This means that I came second place and get to keep the silver for myself, which is nice. Whilst I intended to mail the trophy, I think a celebratory pint and mini awards ceremony is in order, I'll see if I can twist Mr. Works' arm and get some photos of that on here too.

Special mention goes to Prof. Membrain and Bojack for coming so close but losing out on the semis. Man of the tournament award goes to Nafunk for sticking with constant beatings for as long as humanly possible. His determination and courage is an inspiration to us all. I would personally like to thank you all for taking part and generally giving a shit, not to mention putting up with the numerous delays. A particular and heartfelt thank you goes out to my brother Krandal (justtherightbullets) for single-handedly organising this and making it all work with his immense knowledge of systems, leagues and those pesky numbers.

Despite reaching the end, I'm finding it hard be too saddened. I've learned so much from this and enjoyed it so much that more events and tourneys are already in the works. I'm always cautious of making grandiose promises about awesome things I'd love to do, so I'll keep it under the few hats that know for now, but hopefully the future will bring bigger and better things for our expending community.

For now, keep reading, keep listening to the podcasts and know that I am truly grateful for every second you spend here. Thank you all.

It's official

I have no real reason as to why it's taken me so goddamn long to blog about just how official SUPER STREET FIGHTER 4 now is. Seriously, it's fucking happening, after months of us speculating and self-erecting, Capcom are providing us with officially-sanctioned nerd-boner fodder. I don't know what else to say, other than to re-iterate that I am SUPER hyped (heh) and present you with this fine selection of collected material:

No doubt there are more additions yet to be announced, but what do you all think of what's been shown so far? Personally, I think T Hawk looks like the prick he always was and that Ultra Combo looks ridiculous. Seems to be more powerful than Zangief's with far more of a reach. What a bugger. As for Juri, that costume is a bit rubbish, but she has perhaps the coolest Ultra ever oh, and I already miss the old announcer. *sob*

Now, before you argue with me to the death, here is my list of favourite things that I like to hear Yoshinori Ono's translator say: 'beef up the online modes', '8-ish new characters', 'play in larger groups', 'see what is going on with other people', 'brand new openings and endings', 'too much for dlc', 'won't be a full-priced game' and 'the thing I would like to make the most is a new Darkstalkers'. Jurassic Park.

The Split-Screen Street Fighter 4 Tournament -This time, it really is AWWWWN

Well, that was another embarrassing delay, wasn't it? Thankfully, it's over now and we are very much entering the 'business end' of the tournament - the Semi Finals, thanks to Muzzledgrunt graciously bowing out due to his crippling connection issues. Somehow I have managed to creep into fourth and secure myself a place, I still am totally unaware of how this came to be. Nevertheless, I am giggling with glee and simultaneously shitting myself with fear. This is a messy and socially crippling combo. Here's the table ya goddamn Juggalos.

The fact that there is a seven point deficit between me and my next opponent is what has me cacking myself. Wait..............I mean BRING IT AWWWWN!

SEMI FINALS -BEST OF 5

Prof. Membrain (1) vs The Faux Bot (4)

Bojack85 (3) vs vandalworks (2)

Good luck gentlemen. No retreat, no surrender.

I was going to apologise for how badly written this is until I remembered that I'm doing this just after waking up and before I leave for work. I've not even finished my coffee yet. I'm probably going to have a headache all day now. I hope you appreciate it. Bastards.

What's this!? An actual scoop?

If you're at all familiar with the amount of Street Fighter games out there, then you'll know that Capcom love their sequels. Street Fighter 2 alone had Championship edition, Super edition, Turbo edition, etc, etc. The list goes on and is superbly illustrated by this epic Street Fighter timeline. It's inevitable then that they should, in a timely fashion, be providing us fanboys with an update to Street Fighter 4. Whilst the rest of the Internet goes wild with speculation, I can provide you with so em slightly more concrete information thanks to my friend in a high place and his grilling of an ever-so-slightly big-mouthed Capcom rep.

Here's what we know:

Street Fighter 4 -Dash, as it's tentatively known will, amongst other things, feature:
10 new Characters
The return of SF2's car smash-up bonus stages
Sorted online lobbies, replete with quarter mode (winner stays on)
New stages
New moves for each character
Cross-compatibility with current downloadable content

Sounds awesome, I'm sure you'll agree. Hopefully this all turns out to be true and it's on it's way. My prediction is that we'll see it hit this February at the earliest. More scoops from my secretive contact coming soon.

Street Fighter 4 goes back to the old school

If I didn't know better, this blog could easily pass for a Street Fighter fansite at times. I guess I just jump on anything Street Fighter, so sue me. Anyway, Shoryuken forum member steamboy33 re-drew characters from Street Fighter 4 as sprites in the style of Street fighter 3. What's more, is that he has also super-imposed some of them into mocked up fight screens.

Massively impressive, I'm sure you'll agree and a striking reminder of just how gorgeous SF3 was, as if one was needed. Hopefully the impending SFIV Dash update, whatever it may be, will take it's cues from SF3's stunning backdrops. Come on Capcom.

To summarise: wow.

The Split-Screen Street Fighter 4 Tournament - Weekly Update

Christy! When I said go for it, fair play, you all went for it! This week has seen me inundated with fight results and has resulted in the scores going, to use the technical term, 'ape-shit'! As expected, Prof Membrain and Vandalworks continue to dominate. Imagine that they are Zed and the pawn shop owner, and the rest of us are Butch and Marsellus Wallace. The major difference is that there is no samurai sword justice in sight.

Movie references aside, this week has been awesome and we continue to edge even closer to the playoffs and the finals. Expect the winners to be showered with passive aggressive veiled hatred, and there to be plenty of me getting all weepy because you guys actually shared my enthusiasm.

Keep watching and fighting!

The Split-Screen Street Fighter 4 Tournament - Weekly Update

After our first week of free-for-all-ing, this is how the leaderboard looks:

Some incredibly close matches this week: I'm informed that vandalworks and the Prof fought right down to the wire, as I know I did when fighting therightbullets. The Red Cyclone and Sagat always make for an interesting match-up. Prof. Membrain continues to play up to the suggestion that he may in fact be able to manipulate the Matrix as he daps me with a rising dragon punch, despite the round seeming as if it was over. My psych-out tactics, faithfully replicated from the Bart Simpson school of psych-outs, seemed to work on Bojack this week as my Zangief finally beat his Cammy.

I hope you are all enjoying the free-for-all template as much as I am, keep having your fights and check back at the end of each week to see how you all stand. Also, I've noticed that all of my fight-commentating concerns my matches only. If you want your tales of daring-do recounted here, give me exciting details and/or quotes when reporting results.

The Split-Screen Street Fighter 4 Tournament - A New Age Has Dawned!

YAY! It's finally here! The second stage of our very long-winded Street Fighter tournament. I can only apologise for all the delays and tomfoolery, but sigh no more friends, for the second stage is far more exciting and in case you hadn't already gathered: it's here!

As I mentioned before, all we have to do now is fight each other once more, but this time we won't be confined to schedules. You know who you have to fight, so quit stalling and go fight! Due to this new structure it is now more important that both fighters feedback the results to me. I have a little notebook to jot them down in and the table will be updated weekly. Here's where we all stand right now:

That's it! Go fight ya jerks!

The Split-Screen Street Fighter Tournament: Update! (again)

Just another quick update to make sure we all know what's going on. Right now, we are one fight away from what I'm thinking of as 'game time'. Basically, once Bojack fights MuzzledGrunt (formerly known as J JOHNSON) then we will have each fought each other once. From thereon in you will have to fight everyone again, but this time you won't be constrained to our fixtures schedule.
The whole purpose of the schedule was because I assumed there wouldn't be that much interest and as usual, I would have to bully people into sharing my enthusiasm. Thankfully, I was proved wrong and everyone has thoroughly gotten into it, something for which I am incredibly grateful.

When the next round begins, we will have weekly updates (at least) to the table so you guys can keep tabs on each other and see who you need to beat. After that, we get the semis and the finals and then two of you lucky chaps get to walk away with shiny, shiny cups. NaFunk is still yet to rejoin us, but the loose structure of the next round will be much more accommodating to people's schedules which will allow him to rush a heap of matches before the semis start, if he so wishes.

Keep watch on here as always for an 'official' announcement, here's how we all stand right now (not counting fights held this week):

The Split-Screen Street Fighter Tournament: Update!

Just so you all know what's going on: Nafunk has sadly had to drop out for the time being due to not being able to get on Live. So, instantly Bojack gains 2 more points as does Prof Membrain seeing as he would be fighting Nafunk in the next round. Nafunk, it's a shame to lose you mate, hopefully you'll be good in a week to participate in the second rounds. Either way, you still have our respect for being what is commonly refered to as 'A Trooper'.

With that said, I now wish to formally announce that IT IS FUCKING AWWWWWWWN! AND I DON'T JUST MEAN 'ON', I MEAN 'AWWWWWWWN!' WITH 7 W'S. THAT'S RIGHT, 7, COUNT THEM. 7. YOU KNOW THAT MEANS WE'RE BACK IN BUSINESS! Just go fight whoever it is you are yet to fight and keep watch on here for the updated table. Thanks for sticking around gents.

FUCK YEAH! GET FIGHTING!

.........time waits for no man

Just a quick update for anyone who's getting as antsy as I am about this round of the Street Fighter tournament taking so damn long. We have Bojack85 and Nafunk to blame, who have yet to get their shit together. Boys, sort it out, before I start threatening you with forfeit losses.

Lovingly,

The Split-Screen Street Fighter IV Tournament: Round 6: FIGHT!

Well, Gentlemen. The scores are getting increasingly interesting, wouldn't you say? I know that time is getting on now, but this week we get to see a truly almighty match-up. This week, the mighty Vandalworks will battle the equally mighty J JOHNSON! Can you believe it?! No, me neither. But it's happening. So keep practicing and keep having fun. Right now we are toying with the idea of skipping the second load of match-ups so that we can get to the finals quicker. Once everyone has played each other once, then we may move into the eliminations. What say you? We'll be going with the majority on this one, so make yourself heard below.

Here's where we all stand:

And here's this week's fights:

The Faux Bot vs therightbullets
Bojack85 vs NaFunk
ULTIMATE GMX vs Prof Membrain
J JOHNSON vs vandalworks

The Split-Screen Street Fighter IV Tournament: Round 5 - FIGHT!

This week I want to send out a special thank you to NaFunk. His courage and determination is a inspiration to us all. I've also noticed this week that there is a distinct lack of trash talking going on! What's the matter pussies? Too scared to call me out in the comments box, huh? Hopefully it'll ramp up when the finals begin to close in. But for now, the order is self-deprecation and good old-fashioned sportsmanship. If I'm honest, that's the way I like it. So bravo gentlemen, bravo.

As always, here's the table as it stands:

And this round's fixtures:

Bojack85 vs therightbullets

Nafunk vs Vandalworks

Prof Membrain vs The Faux Bot

J JOHNSON vs ULTIMATE GMX (battle of the capitals)

The Split-Screen Street Fighter IV Tournament: Round 4 - FIGHT!

This isn't on. The losing I mean. I should have figured out a way to rig my matches by now, right? I haven't, obviously. Forgive me, for I digress. What I should be telling you is just how it's all going. Right now, it doesn't take a genius to work out that J JOHNSON is a goddamn machine! As is the ever-mysterious vandalworks, who has mustered an impressive 5 points, presumably by summoning the spirit of the dark hado. Bad karma, man. I await my pasting. Prof Membrain, ULTIMATEGMX and Bojack could still turn things around considerably at this stage, but as for us three at the bottom, don't despair, for I have arranged an extra-special bottom 3 losers prize - HOOKERS! The classy ones too! *

Anyway, here's the table as it currently stands:

And here are this round's pairings:

J JOHNSON vs Prof. Membrain

Vandalworks vs The Faux Bot

ULTIMATE GMX vs Bojack85

NaFunk vs therightbullets

Who will prove the old axiom today?

200th post spectacular!

Bit of a misleading title there. Whilst this is indeed the 200th post, there is very little in the way of 'spectacular'. This does, however, give me the opportunity to be a bit reflective, which is by no means a bad thing. The fact that we're still doing this and that some people are still coming here means that this blog has potential. Potential for what I don't know exactly, greater things maybe, a wider audience, something that could in some way be deemed as success.

I'm rambling a bit, so I'll summarise. All readers, thank you, very, very much. All comments and your continued visits is what gives this a purpose. All contributors, you already know how much it means to me and I still stand by my 'job for life' mantra. We can make it happen.

Beyond getting all sentimental, I did have something in mind for this post, something which would be particularly relevant for us all right now. I Got Next is a documentary concerning the mentality of people involved in fighting game tournaments. Namely, Street Fighter ones. It features everyone's favourite fat-ass second placer Justin Wong and loads of people speaking with enormous amounts of self-importance. Excuse me for sounding so cynical, I'm just jealous because these guys get paid to be awesome at a game that I pay to suck at........go figure.

Trailer below, download link on the site.

The Split-Screen Street Fighter IV Tournament: Round 3 - FIGHT!

Another round down, another 2 points lost by your truly. I really hope this trend doesn't continue. Anyway, check the table below to see how the competition is hotting up: Bojack and J Johnson duking it out for to spot right now, with Vandalworks sneaking in around the back thanks to a round against the Prof.

Hopefully this week's fights will stir things up even more, so without further ado, here are the matches for Round 3. Who will walk away a champion?

Bojack85 vs vandalworks

ULTIMATE GMX vs NaFunk

The Faux Bot vs J JOHNSON

Prof Membrain vs therightbullets

I'm practically shitting myself.

The Split-Screen Street Fighter IV Tournament: Round 2- FIGHT!

Well, gentlemen, there you have it: Round 1 is over and what a thoroughly thrilling round it was. Absolutely no 2-1's! Just 2-0 beatings all round. Oh dear oh dear. Hearts have been broken, dreams shattered, but wills have also been strengthened, and other cliched battle terms.

Anyway, I digress. I want to present you with the league as it currently stands:

And the prizes for which you so valiantly battle:

Yes, they are trophies. They are yay high and have "SPLIT SCREEN STREET FIGHTER TOURNAMENT 2009" inscribed on the plaques. There will be a runner-up prize which is yet to be determined.

This also officially begins round 2, here are the current fixtures, you know the drill:

ULTIMATE GMX vs therightbullets
J JOHNSON vs NaFunk
Prof Membrain vs Vandalworks
Bojack85 vs The Faux Bot

Have fun, fight well and dream of shiny, shiny trophies. I'd also like to take this opportunity to everyone for their help with this. JTRB for all his impeccable organisation and everyone for their continued support and enthusiasm. You all rock and are totally tubular.
